De eerste premières hebben al weer plaats gevonden en net als vorig jaar wil ik terug- en vooruit kijken op de theaterseizoenen. In september had ik grote verwachtingen van de volgende voorstellingen:

4. Peter Pan, World Arena Tour - Music Hall

Hoogtepunten van het voorgaande seizoen zijn voor mij echter de volgende voorstellingen geworden:

Precious Places: Walt Disney World - Hollywood Studios

Disney's Hollywood Studios is een park dat vergelijkbaar is met het Studios park in Frankrijk. Maar zoals alle Amerikaanse Disney equivalenten in Florida is dit park veel groter (en beter aangekleed) dan de Franse versie.

Last week I won a competition! To enter I had to come up with an original idea for a musical. As a dramaturg I help other theatre makers to make the most of their work. I help them rethink, redevelop or rewrite the things they have come up with. But I never come up with new material (i.e. make a script myself, write music, etc). So I was really honored when the team of the musical [title of show], that is currently playing at the Landor Theatre in London, chose my idea as the winning idea! I won two tickets for the show. Alas, I got back from London just one day before they announced me as the winner. And I won't be returning before their last performance on the 14th of september.

So, dear readers, if any of you would like to go see [title of show] please drop me a line (via e-mail) and I'll make sure you get the tickets. Please let me know (in your e-mail) which performance from now until september 14th you would like to attend.

The Color Purple

The Color Purple is a musical theatre adaptation of Alice Walker's best-selling novel. I saw the movie a couple of years ago and it left somewhat of an impression. Loving the previous productions I saw at the Menier Chocolate Factory I wanted to see their latest production as well. 

The Color Purple takes place between 1914 and 1945 in the southern states of the United States. It tells the story of Celie (Cynthia Erivo). After giving birth to two children fathered by her step-father she is married off to Mister (Christopher Colquhoun). Mister originally wanted to marry Celie's beautiful sister, Nettie (Abiona Omonua). But her father wants her to become a teacher. Celie wants to protect her little sister and so she obediently marries Mister. Mister is in love with jazz-singer Shug Avery (Nicola Hughes) and he beats up Celie for the sheer fact of her not being like Shug. Shug tours the country with her singing act and is known for her flings and several illegitimate children. Celie and Shug fall in love but soon Shug leaves again to sing. But before she leaves she finds the many letters that Nettie send to Celie, and Mister had hidden from her.

Vintage Holiday Pictures

Some time ago I bought this vintage Holiday photo album on my favorite Dutch secondhand website. The album contains photo's from 1911 to 1934 and has lots of family photo's and little remarks scribbled on the pages.

Nederlands: Een tijdje geleden kocht ik op marktplaats een oud fotoalbum met vakantie foto's. Het album bevat foto's die werden gemaakt tussen 1911 en 1934 en staat bol van de familiekiekjes en kleine aantekeningetjes.

Otis op de Parade

Dit jaar staat er een voorstelling van M-lab op de Parade. Ik ben dol op de Parade en dol op M-lab dus die voorstelling moest ik zien! Otis was eerder te zien in M-lab maar ik had geen mogelijkheid om er heen te gaan. Gelukkig kon ik op de Parade (helaas in ingekorte vorm) Otis alsnog gaan zien.

After the ...and that is who I am tag I had the idea of doing a tag about who I was as a child. I couldn't really find one and so I thought: I'll make one myself! Probably don't have enough followers to make a really successful one, but I would love it if any of you would copy it to their own blog (with a link to my blog pretty please. Although I love all 30 of you dearly, I wouldn't mind it if more people read Wit).  As I love old photographs, feel free to add as much photos as you can. I hope you'll like it. Here it goes: 

When asked "What do you want to be when you grow up?" what would 4 year old you have answered? 

I think that back then I wanted to be a bunny with a drum. Like the ones in the Duracell batteries commercial. I think it had to do with the pink color.

Did your parents ever bring you to a photographer while you were a kid? 

Yes they did. Although I wasn't to happy with that according to the photos.
